Commercial Fishermen, Commercial Watermen Of Maryland's Chesapeake Bay Captain Larry Simns, Welcomes you aboard the Dawn II Watermen of the Chesapeake Bay are called that because they harvest many species of seafood in different seasons. In any given year a watermen may harvest blue crabs in the summer months, oysters in the fall, striped bass and perch in the winter mouths and he may elect to catch either eels, catfish, yellow perch or soft shell calms in the spring and back to crabbing in the summer. Some watermen clam year round while others may crab and oyster. Some take out fishing parties in the summer and commercial fish in the winter or any combination of the fisheries. Most watermen have the equipment and gear necessary to do all of the above. There are many ways to harvest the many species of seafood throughtout the Chesapeake Bay.
